Patricia Apollonia Kotero has been an actress and model in the United States for many years. She's best known for her part in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain as well as being the lead vocalist of Apollonia 6, a girl group. The singer and actress who was christened Apollonia by Prince was one of many female performers in the 1980s to benefit from her association with Prince, the Purple One. The actress was born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her professional career began as a model actress by the end of the '70s with a role on the TV show CHiPS. The show's lead actress was in Prince's Purple Rain in 1984 (at which point he had changed his name). The same year, she was replaced by Vanity as part of the group Vanity 6 as well as performed alongside them under the name Apollonia 6 in the film. Sex Shooter, the group's minor hit song from the soundtrack was her biggest chart success. After a falling out over the direction of her career Apollonia 6 split up and Kotero ended her association with Prince. Following her appearance in minor movies (and reportedly refusing to participate on The Purple Rain film Under the Cherry Moon) her name was mentioned and she was a part of the 1985-86 nighttime drama Falcon Crest. Apollonia was finally able to make her debut album available in the year 1988. It failed to leave a lasting impression with music fans and she soon faded off the music scene. The singer was still active, though not in the limelight, as an actress during the decade that followed, with a few film and television roles. Even an exercise DVD was made available. Apollonia made a record in English and Spanish called Stay with Me in 1997. She later returned to school earned a filmmaking degree, and formed her own production firm, which mainly focuses on children's television. Apollonia Kotero is a multi-faceted person. She's been a model, singer-actress and the talent manager. In her capacity as an actress, she's renowned for her role in the 1984 film Purple Rain.
